An afternoon of arias from operas and shows sung by four rising stars of the highly esteemed Lyric Opera Center for American Artists.

Lauren Curnow

Lauren Curnow

Lauren Curnow (mezzo-soprano), a second-year member of the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, appeared at Lyric Opera of Chicago in the 2003/2004 season as a Peasant Girl/Le nozze di Figaro (debut), Alisa/Lucia di Lammermoor, and Kate Pinkerton/Madama Butterfly. She recently completed her training at The Curtis Institute of Music, where she portrayed the Dragonfly/L'enfant es les sortilèges, Erika/Vanessa, Ottavia/L'incoronazione di Poppea, Hermia/A Midsummer Night's Dream, the title role/Le Tragédie de Carmen, and Dorabella/Così fan tutte.

She has also earned degrees in music and theater arts from The Juilliard School and Muhlenberg College. Curnow has completed apprenticeships at Wolf Trap Opera, The Santa Fe Opera, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Other roles she has performed include Mercèdés/Carmen, Annina/La traviata, Bianca/The Rape of Lucretia, Marcellina/Le nozze di Figaro, and Hippolyta/A Midsummer Night's Dream. Curnow has appeared in concert with the National Symphony Orchestra at Washington's Kennedy Center, the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia, Sylvan Opera, Curtis Symphony Chamber Orchestra, Haddonfield Symphony Orchestra, and Allentown Symphony Orchestra.
Quinn K. Kelsey

Quinn Kelsey (baritone), a second-year Lyric Opera Center for American Artists member, appeared at Lyric Opera of Chicago this season as Wagner/Faust (debut) and both Yamadori and the Registrar/Madama Butterfly. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai'i, Kelsey received his Bachelor's of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa under John W. Mount. Having first appeared with Hawai'i Opera Theater as a teenaged chorus member, he has since returned as a principal artist, appearing as Melot/Tristan und Isolde, Yamadori/Madama Butterfly, and most recently Marcello/La bohème.

Quinn K. Kelsey

As a soloist, Kelsey has performed Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Duruflé's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Fauré's Requiem, Mozart's Requiem, Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, Rutter's Requiem, Beethoven's Mass in C, Thompson's Peaceable Kingdom, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Haydn's Creation, and Puccini's Messa di Gloria with major orchestral and choral organizations throughout Hawai'i, including the Honolulu Symphony and the Maui Symphony. Kelsey is also former bass soloist of Central Union Church in Honolulu.

Patrick Miller

Patrick Miller

Patrick Miller (tenor), a second-year Lyric Opera Center for American Artists member, appeared in the Lyric Opera of Chicago 2003/2004 season as the First Philistine/Samson et Dalila (debut) and Arturo/Lucia di Lammermoor. Next season he will portray Dino, the groom, in the world premiere of Bolcom's A Wedding. Miller is an alumnus of Wheaton College in psychology and the University of Minnesota in both psychology and music.

He gained national attention as Tamino/Die Zauberflöte with the Theatre de la Jeune Lune in his native Minneapolis. He has also appeared with Fargo-Moorhead Opera (Camille/The Merry Widow, Don Ramiro/La Cenerentola), Austin Lyric Opera (Carmen, Cold Sassy Tree, La Cenerentola tour), Lyric Opera of San Antonio (La traviata), Orlando Opera (The Magic Flute), Glimmerglass Opera (Dialogues des Carmélites), and the Opera Institute of Boston (Così fan tutte, Die Fledermaus). Miller has sung an extensive concert an oratorio repertoire, including appearances at the Covent Garden, Prague, Flanders, and Oregon Bach festivals with the Plymouth Music Series choral ensemble.
Guang Yang

Guang Yang (mezzo-soprano), a third-year Lyric Opera Center for American Artists member, has appeared at Lyric Opera of Chicago as Albine/Thaïs (debut), Annina/La traviata, and Suzuki/Madama Butterfly. She in the 2004/2005 season for Das Rheingold, The Cunning Little Vixen, and the Ring cycle. A native of Beijing, Yang won the 1997 BBC Singer of the World Competition in Cardiff and Plácido Domingo's 2001 OPERALIA Competition.

Guang Yang

Her recent engagements include Rosina/Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Welsh National Opera; Hécube/Les Troyens with the London Symphony Orchestra (Sir Colin Davis conducting, available on CD); Verdi's Requiem with both the National Symphony Orchestra and the Welsh National Opera Orchestra; a concert at the Cultural Center in Hong Kong; a Marilyn Horne Foundation concert at Carnegie Hall; a recital tour of the United Kingdom; and appearances with the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Stockholm Radio Symphony Orchestra. Yang will sing Eboli/Don Carlo with Welsh National Opera in 2005 and Amneris/Aida with Houston Grand Opera in 2006/2007.
